For the last month, I have been helping a friend update her teen son’s room. He had a great space and he knew what he wanted, so we went to work thinking of how to make this space feel like a cozy and fun space that him and his friends could enjoy. He loves basketball, the Nets, and especially Kevin Durant, so I came up with a few design boards to share with him. In the end, we mixed and matched everything he loved, and I am so excited to share with you the teen boy’s basketball themed room reveal. Before I share all the details, here are a few photos of what this room looked like before.

Here is how the room turned out! The first step with to get the walls painted. I chose White Dove by Benjamin Moore for the main color. Then we added a black board and batten focal point wall that I absolutely love. It was just what this space needed. I chose to paint the accent wall Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams. (You can see how I used these 2 colors in my teen son’s room HERE)
I added this black and white geometric rug. Love the playful pattern and how it grounds the space.
I wanted to bring in some rustic wood tones so we chose this wood panel headboard and side tables to break up the black and white color scheme. Love the contrast and how they look against the black accent wall. At the foot of the bed, I added these folding metal and leather ottomans. I always love adding a bench or 2 ottomans at the foot of the bed for extra seating.
Now for the bedding details. Because I am a huge fan of Beddy’s, I knew he would love the look and feel of them on his new bed. I added the grey Oliver Luxe Beddy’s with a minky insert. This color is perfect for a boy’s room! I paired it with with some black pillows and a leather lumbar pillow. (You can see other ways I used Beddy’s in my house HERE)
To bring in the theme, we went to Etsy to find some Kevin Durant wall decor. We found quotes, jerseys from past and present teams, and cool action shots. I also added some basketballs to each side of this larger poster to bring in the basketball theme and add a fun 3-D touch.
For lighting, I went with these large concrete lamps. I love how they look paired with the moody decor. They were a perfect fit for this room!
Since teenage boys are always having friends over, I knew he needed some extra seating. We added this leather futon in front of his window. Love how it looks in this space and for an added bonus, it lays flat so he can have a friend sleep over.
I had so much fun designing a teen boy basketball room. Incorporating the right color scheme, wall decor, bedding, furniture, lighting, and accessories can create a unique and personalized space that your teen will love spending time in. Below I am sharing one last before and after picture, I hope you enjoyed seeing all the details of how this space came together.

They were painted when the home was built so I am not sure about the color. So sorry!

Hello, first let me say I have all the feels for the way you designed your son’s room with all the Kevin Durant details! It is my son’s favorite player… it looks great! Question as far as the blackboard, where did you get it from? Also what is the size of the rug? I want to attempt to redo my son’s room for his 10th bday as a surprise 😬
